Leadership programs
Financial Acumen
A program with a curriculum developed by Sonoco’s own financial leaders, connecting plant leadership to plant financial performance through hands-on work with University of South Carolina faculty and Sonoco Finance leaders.
How this helps at work
Helps an operations leader read the numbers behind their site and explain how a scheduling, staffing, or material decision moves business performance.
Who it is for
Plant managers and potential future plant managers who lead others directly or indirectly through a team or project.
Eligibility: Participants should have demonstrated leadership skills in their current role and potential to move into more senior, critical positions. Must be nominated through the Talent Review process.
What you can develop
- Listen to a recent earnings call and discuss next year’s top financial goals with financial executives
- Discuss the balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows, and interpret important financial ratios
- Work through hands-on exercises and case studies on Sonoco financials
- Analyze the financial ratios of Sonoco’s closest competitors
- Strengthen financial planning and analysis — what is controllable, what is not, and how to spot plant financial weaknesses
